Key Ingredients

Rose

The rose is a mysterious, self contained being which seems so ethereal that in many cultures the rose was seen as a gift of the gods. Because of their harmonizing properties; Rose essential oil, Rose water, Rose wax or extract of Rose blossom are found in almost all Dr.Hauschka Skin Care and Make-up.

Anthyllis

Anthyllis is of special importance as a medicinal herb in the formulas of Dr.Hauschka Skin Care. It is used in particular for its balancing effect on skin functions. Whether oily, blemished, dry or sensitive, Anthyllis supports the skin to a balanced state.

Calendula

Calendula is found in Dr.Hauschka skin care products where there is skin that’s irritated or prone to inflammation and needs to be soothed.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is valued in particular for its astringent, firming and tissue stimulating properties. It activates metabolic processes in the skin and prevents inflammation to promote a radiant, healthy complexion.

Marshmallow

Reach out and touch a leaf of a Marshmallow plant in the WALA gardens and it feels as though you have touched a piece of silk. Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products use both the root and leaves for their moisture preserving properties.

Echinacea

We have the indigenous Americans to thank for our knowledge of the purple cone flower. For the production of Echinacea essences, the entire flowering stems are harvested from the medicinal herb garden of WALA in summer and the roots in the winter.
In Clarifying Toner the flower complements the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions of its medicinal herb composition.

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”.
Indigenous American saying

Red clover (Trifolium pratense)
an isoflavone-rich meadow flower

The spherical, red and white urchin-like heads of red clover (Trifolium pratense) flourish in almost every meadow. The flower head consists of many long, individual petals that are pollinated by bumblebees. Red clover is particularly rich in isoflavones – substances very similar to estrogen, which is often referred to as phyto-estrogens. These compounds protect the skin from prematurely skin aging. Dr.Hauschka Regenerating Serum and Regenerating Day Cream contain special certified organic red clover extracts.
What makes it special is that before the extract can be used in the products it is allowed to age for seven days in large stoneware pots. Every morning and evening, WALA employees thoroughly stir the developing essence and allow light to penetrate the liquid which is otherwise stored in the dark.
This rhythmic process allows nature’s polarities to continue to take effect on the essence.

Bryophyllum (Bryophyllum daigremontiana) –
the epitome of ‘limitless vitality’

Clusters of tiny plantlets, miniatures of the mother plant, develop from the edges of the serrated leaves, before dropping on to the soil where they take root quickly and grow into independent plants.
Large volumes of water are stored in the leaves and stem of this tropical plant while its waxy coating prevents the liquid from evaporating. The soothing reservoir of moisture in bryophyllum is ideal for revitalising the skin.

Field Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) –
An ancient plant, rich in silica

Field Horsetail, due to its high silica content, feels extremely rough to the touch. Millions of years ago, the earth was covered in entire forests of Field Horsetail; while horsetails in ancient times grew to impressive heights of up to 30 metres, their modern counterparts reach a more modest 50 cm. The silicic acids contained in this plant fortify and firm the tissue and skin.
